Maybe life is too short;
For us to watch all the movies in the world.
I've decided to do away with the ranking as it's pretty cumbersome during updating. I'm gonna just put up reviews of movies according to the date I watched them, starting from the latest!
Seabiscuit (2003)
Gary Ross
A rags-to-riches story, except that this is a true story, and a very inspiring one. Probably one of the best adaptation from book to film genre I've ever seen. It captures the rhythm and tempo of the movie so acutely with its music and transition between the "chasing" scenes and "close-up" scenes. Every second of the movie conveys so much, and to pack this much into a 104 mins film is remarkable. And kudos to the lead actors Tobey Maguire (Spiderman), Jeff Bridges and Chris Cooper. They've handled each of their characters so well, bringing out their personalities and emotions.
Public Enemies (2009)
Michael Mann
Witty lines, charming lead actors, intense build up to the ending. However, there were some parts of the movie which could have been extended slightly longer and the timing was slightly off i felt. And at times, the shakiness of the camera seemed unnecessary. The ending probably saved the movie.
Funny Games (2008)
Michael Haneke
This has to be it! The freakiest psychopathic movie I have ever watched in my entire life! Mind games, psychoanalysis, how we humans perceive and believe things, act and respond, all covered in this awesome movie.
Sell Out! (2009)
Yeo Joon Han
Kudos to the Malaysian film director who made a breakthrough in the Venice film festival! He also wrote the songs for the movie and some other stuffs which is really incredible. The story revolves around the topic of "Dreams" and "Reality"... How "dreams" are being condemned by "reality" and also questions the practicality of "dreams" without a balance of pragmatism. At times, I find the movie slightly draggy but it doesn't really take away that spark off the movie. Support local movies!
Butterfly Effect (2004)
Eric Bress
J. Mackye Gruber
Gripping storyline, in fact, it's one of those very complex plots but very well taken care of. Definitely worth a watch! And I like the meaning behind this whole movie too... the "what if"s and the if we really can change what has already happened...
Milk (2008)
Gus Van Sant
Let me get this STRAIGHT! (pun intended) I'm not gay, but i really loved the gus van sant's techniques... wathc his other movies like "paranoid park" and "elephant" and u will understand why... and this movie should hav won the oscar for best film instead... lol inspirational documentation of how human beings fight for their rights!
Requiem For A Dream (2000)
Darren Aronofsky
Firstly, the soundtrack - AWESOME! one of the things that is going to be stuck on ur mind after watching... Secondly, the quick-cut scenes of the drug-taking... simply brilliant! and how the different stories all culminate to a climax in the end... absolutely PERFECT.
Lost In Translation (2003)
Sofia Coppola
For all those who have felt the sensation of being sucky or empty or lonely or basically lost on ur own in a foreign land... OR NOT.... worth a watch!
Ladder 49 (2004)
Jay Russell
I cried watching this one. The tempo of the movie moved the audience and resonates well. =)
The Diving Bell annd The Butterfly (2007)
Julian Schnabel
Beautiful cinematography. Filmed from the point of view of the protagonist who happened to be paralyzed, left with only the left eye which works. I actually watched it in the cinema as a homework!
Cashback (2006)
Sean Ellis
Probably the thought of stopping time has occurred to us at some point of time in our lives. The vivid scenes when the protagonist used his imaginations to transcend the passing of time and the witty transitions of scenes will definitely captivate the viewers' minds.
The Lives of Others (2006)
Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck
Voyeurism at its best! The virtually non existent privacy state in East Germany then... and watch how the story of spying on the lives of others unfold...
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Gabriele Muccino
Touching movie! and of coz the will smith factor! I dunno what to say, watch it!
Match Point (2005)
Woody Allen
"I rather be lucky than good". A movie which points out the sad(?) fact that luck plays a role, big one, in determining our lives. A 9/10 for the plot.

There are things that I've to say;
Because I have opinions.
It's the new millennium. Only one tenth of the people in this world for the past ten centuries probably get to witness this. How fortunate I am, I realised.
The hype about the milennium, the Y2K virus, armageddon myths, total breakdown of computers globally and of course, the countdown to this new milennium. What was I doing? I couldn't recall, probably sitting in front of my computer or TV watching countdown programmes, with the family already sound asleep. Countdowns have always been amusing to me, for they aren't really much significance to it, besides it's the beginning of the new year. And maybe that's why my family were never interested in such nonsense.
My form teacher is Shirin Chan. She was the one started calling me "Lau Lau" in class, which resulted in my classmates following suit. Strange as it may be, but that was the name I was called by most of my peers then. It's a funny year, because I've done so little things worth recalling... It's saddening to only remember that I spent most of the time trying to catch wrestling shows.
But then and again, I created quite a bit of something when I started doodling my first successful series of comics. It's about this teddy bear of my which I bought in the MINES Shopping Mall in KL on 3rd December 1998. It has since been me and bro's favourite buddy. We would "talk" to it for hours long after coming home from school. It's crazy and probably you guys are flinching now. LOL. And I drew this series of comics on it and it was a total seller, all the books were sold. Because there's only one buyer and one book made for each episode. HAHAHA. No prizes for guessing who. I would threaten to cry if he doesn't buy it. I was SO CRAZY for money last time, I don't know why.

Isn't it ADORABLE? HAHA. We nearly forgotten his birthday one year and we woke up like 11pm to celebrate for it. We were like crazy back then. Didn't understand why my bro would entertain me then, because now that I think about it, it's quite stupid. But fun altogether. Great happy memories. HAHA.
I've been trying to gather my memories in 1999. They're probably those pockets of time in my mind which I don't recall as much.
Primary 4 is when I start to have afternoon classes on mondays. It was pretty "big deal" as I finally get to eat out on my own. But not entirely as I was very much still following my brother. There was no one in my class who stays back, coz' apparently their parents are damn free to come and fetch them and they lived relatively nearer. So I kind of eat with my brother's friends and that's when I got the name "Lau 的弟弟" they would keep calling that even if they have known my name. I've always thought my brother didn't like having me around so i kept quiet all the time and go back to class after finishing the chicken rice. And did I mention that it was the only thing I eat for the whole year for my monday lunches? Apparently, this chicken rice stall behind the school sells pretty good chicken rice and since my bro eats there, I had to oblige too.
Then, later part of the year, the girl I had a crush on started staying back once in a while. I was thrilled and sometimes when my bro elsewhere, I would 打包 and eat in class with her. To me then, it was like the greatest joy of my life. Those quiet moments with her despite being rows of tables and chairs apart.
Then April came, her parents threw a birthday party celebration for her and invited the whole class. I was... for some reason... being an ASSHOLE and told her I didn't want to go. "Why?" she asked. And came the most childish/idiotic/retarded/etc reply, "I want to play PS at home."
OMG! Only to realise how much I regret not going after that. I was very much someone who just goes to school, come back home, and the cycle repeats. It was only in primary 4 when I began to like "go to friend's house for non-birthday party resons". The first experience was going to this guy, Jordan's house. Played PS the whole day. And eh! That was all I did at his place. -.- Then I realized Brunei kids don't come together and play like "Pepsi Cola" or "单脚" (A game where the catcher catch by hopping on one leg). I began to miss Malaysia for that.
OH! Nearly missed out THE event of the year. I began to wear specs in primary 4. I was so proud to have damaged my eyes then. It sort of separate me from the rest, for a short while before more and more people in the class started wearing too. It marked the beginning of possibly a life-long specs-wearing journey...
My eldest brother visited Brunei the second time that year. And as usual, we brought him to the Jerudong Park (The only amusement park in the world to be free-of-charge, not anymore now though) I could remember how the "four cats stacked upon one-another" marking the height limit would break m heart everytime. I would cry and cry everytime I go to Jerudong Park for I could only watch my brother ride the roller coasters and stuff. Until today, I still have not ride the roller coasters in Jerudong Park.
That was pretty much everything I could recall from 1999. (My bro cheated me armageddon was on 09-09-99) ._.
Because I have opinions.
